#1 Buying the right model
What’s the first thing to do to becoming a Gundam Modeler? Why, getting your Gundam of course! While it might seem like the obvious thing to do, this can be the toughest part for most people!
As tempting as it might be to go for the largest or most expensive kit out there, you’d be far better off going for something that suits your tastes and skill level. Getting a kit that is easy to do, but you have absolutely no personal attachment to will make it difficult for you to write something about. Likewise, getting a kit that is out of your budget, or way too difficult to fix, isn’t very fun either.
Pick a kit that you can both assemble to the best of your ability, as well as write passionately about!
#2 Picture this!
After building your model (preferably with as much love & care as possible!), it’s time for picture taking!
To start, get your model into a cool pose! Standing it on a flat, even surface is best, but a display stand can be of great help too!
For best results, it’s always good to snap your picture in a well-lit room with a clean background. Not only will it be more visible, but a nice, clear picture is much easier to work with should you want to add any special touches later!
#3 The write up!
Last but not least, it’s time to write something about your model! You can write anything as long as it’s related to the model you’ve just built – why you decided to build this model, what you like about it, or get creative and write a little background story about it! Remember that it must be at least 100 words, so keep it concise.

Strike Back!
When I heard of COCO!’s Gundam Modeler Apprentice competition, I was really excited! I have been doing gunpla for a year now and have always wanted a chance to show my work to other people who also enjoy doing gunpla. I decided to do the Real Grade (RG) Aile Strike Gundam from Gundam Seed. I love the Strike’s simple design and illustrious history from the show, having been piloted by 2 important characters; Kira Yamato and Mwu La Fllaga. I was sad when it eventually got destroyed and felt the need to give tribute to the original Seed hero! I also chose the RG kit as I love how it’s packed with so much detail despite its small size!
